WeWard has 20 million users worldwide.

The founders of the WeWard mobile application have a vision: to make walking a central part of the daily lives of as many individuals as possible worldwide. WeWard users earn points every day based on the distance they have walked. When the points reach a certain threshold, users can use them at partner stores, convert them into money, or donate them to charities.

Established in 2019, WeWard now has 20 million users across Europe, the United States, and Japan. Since its inception, WeWard has paid out 18 million euros to its users and 1 million euros to charities.

WeWard aims to eliminate the manual and time-consuming processing of its B2C clients' point withdrawals

To serve its clients more quickly, optimize its team’s workload, and reduce operational risks, WeWard sought to innovate in its approach to processing users’ transfer requests: moving from manual management with batch file transfers to automated management through a banking API.

Orchestrating transfers via API allows:

  • Reducing the time spent by the Finance team managing transfers.
  • Eliminating operational risks: transactions are automatically executed via API, eliminating the risk of errors in file transfers.
  • Accelerating reception time for users since transfer requests are processed immediately instead of being processed periodically in CSV batch files.

WeWard's clients receive their point earnings immediately into their bank accounts thanks to Memo Bank's premium API and instant transfers

After exploring banks and fintech companies, WeWard chose to use Memo Bank’s API, which is unique in the banking market:

  • Automation of WeWard’s reward system: when a client requests a point withdrawal through their mobile application, an instant transfer is automatically executed via API from WeWard’s bank account. Memo Bank thus sends tens of thousands of transfers per month without any human intervention from WeWard’s teams.
  • Improving the reception time of rewards through API instant transfers: all Memo Bank transfers are by default instant transfers, and Memo Bank’s API is one of the few APIs on the market to handle instant transfers.
  • Ensuring a high level of security in transaction execution: the authentication process requires no user interaction from end to end. API calls are encrypted and authenticated through the exchange of signed tokens. Memo Bank’s API relies on state-of-the-art open-source technologies in the digital industry.

WeWard’s teams integrated Memo Bank’s API in just 3 weeks: 2 weeks for testing and 1 week for deployment. Tanguy De La Villegeorges, co-founder and CEO of WeWard, attributes this speed to the simplicity of the API, the readability of its documentation , and the responsiveness of Memo Bank’s technical teams and customer service. They have always been very available to address WeWard’s team requests and facilitate API integration.

Memo Bank simplifies KYC procedures via API to save time for WeWard's teams

KYC procedures are typically time-consuming for Finance teams. For example, when a bank requested clarification on the recipient of a transfer, WeWard’s Finance team had to locate the flagged transaction, extract the recipient’s information from its databases, and provide it to the bank.

To make life easier for financial teams, Memo Bank offers companies a simplified KYC procedure to manage such requests. Memo Bank allows companies to automatically add a note (JSON file) to each transaction that provides the recipient’s payment information via API. Memo Bank has direct access to this information and does not need to involve WeWard’s teams.

This innovation, which sets a new standard for KYC, is another piece in optimizing WeWard’s payment infrastructure.
