WeWard has 20 million users worldwide.

The founders of WeWard have a vision: to make walking a central part of the daily lives of as many individuals as possible, all around the world. Through WeWard mobile application, users earn points (called ‘Wards’) based on the distance they walk every day. When users have collected enough ‘Wards’, they can redeem those for cash, use them at partner stores, or donate them to charities.

Established in 2019, WeWard now has 20 million users across Europe, the United States, and Japan. Since its inception, WeWard has paid out €18 million to its users and €1 million to charities.

WeWard removes manual and time-consuming processes to deliver a great client experience

In order to improve the experience for their clients, optimise workload, and reduce operational risks, WeWard was looking for a modern and automated way to process their user’s requests. WeWard moved from a manual solution, involving large data files, to a fully automated (STP) solution through a banking API.

Managing their clients’ transactions via API enabled WeWard to:

  • Save time: their Finance team no longer needs to be as involved as before when managing transfers
  • Remove operational risks: transactions are automatically executed via API, suppressing the need to manipulate large data files
  • Enhance client experience: As transfer requests are processed immediately, clients can access their rewards quicker

WeWard leverages Memo Bank API's real-time capabilities to immediately credit their clients' bank accounts with their cash rewards

After reviewing the solutions offered by banks and fintechs, WeWard chose Memo Bank, interested in the added value delivered by their Premium Bank API.

  • End-to-end automation of the reward process: when a client requests to access their ‘Wards’ through their mobile application, an instant transfer is automatically executed via API from WeWard’s bank account. Memo Bank then sends tens of thousands of transfers per month without any human intervention from WeWard.
  • Removing delays in accessing rewards: Memo Bank transfers are set by default to instant transfers. Memo Bank’s API is one of the few on the market which can handle this type of transfers.
  • Delivering a high level of security when executing transactions: the authentication process requires no user interaction. API calls are encrypted, authenticated and authorised through JWTs. Memo Bank’s API relies on state-of-the-art open-source technologies in the digital industry.

WeWard integrated Memo Bank’s API in just 3 weeks: 2 weeks for testing and 1 week for deployment. Tanguy De La Villegeorges, co-founder and CEO of WeWard, attributes this speed to the simplicity of the API, the readability of its documentation, and the responsiveness of Memo Bank’s product engineer and customer service teams. These teams have always demonstrated great availability to help WeWard integrate the API in a timely and efficient manner.

Memo Bank's API streamlines KYC procedures, delivering significant time-saving for WeWard

KYC procedures are typically time-consuming for finance teams. For example, when a bank requested details of a recipient receiving a transfer, WeWard’s finance team had to search for the transaction, extract the recipient’s detail from the databases, and provide the information to their bank.

To make life easier for finance teams, Memo Bank offers companies a simplified KYC to identity and reconcile transactions. Memo Bank allows companies to attach a document (JSON file), with the recipient’s details, against each transaction. These details are accessible via API, meaning Memo Bank does not need to involve WeWard to get the recipient’s details.

This innovation sets a new standard to deliver modern and reliable KYC procedures and adds another brick in optimising WeWard’s payment infrastructure.
